Is this event badge designer really free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, so there is nothing for us to host and nothing to charge for. There is no signup, no payment, no watermark, and no limit on the number of badges you can design and print.
Is my attendee data private?
Yes. Your attendee list, your design and your logo are stored in your own browser using IndexedDB and are never uploaded to our servers, so we never see them. They stay on this device until you choose “Reset everything” or clear your browser’s site data.
What badge sizes are supported?
There are presets for A6, A7, 4×6 inches, 4×3 inches and credit card size, and you can enter custom dimensions in millimetres for anything else. Every size works in portrait or landscape, and what you see on screen is printed at exactly that size.
Can I add QR codes to badges?
Yes. The designer generates a QR code for each attendee. Add a qr_code_value column to your CSV to control what it contains; otherwise it uses the attendee’s reference, then their email, then their name.
What CSV formats are supported?
The tool detects common column names for name (first_name, last_name, name, full_name), email (email, email_address), company (company, organization, org), reference (reference, order_id, ticket_number) and QR code value (qr_code_value, qr_code, qr). Every other column in your file, such as job title, pronouns or ticket type, can be placed on the badge too.
Can I colour-code badges by ticket type?
Yes. Add a colour band to the badge, choose “Colour-code by column” and pick a column such as ticket_type. Each value gets its own colour, which you can change, so staff can tell VIPs, speakers and crew apart at a glance. The band can also print the value itself.
What happens with very long names?
Names and other attendee details shrink to fit on one line, so one long surname does not break the layout for everyone else. You can turn this off for any element, and fix a typo or add a walk-in from the Data tab without going back to your spreadsheet.
How do I print all my badges?
Open the Print tab and choose “Print all badges”. Badges are laid out on A4 or US Letter at their real size, with optional cut lines, and the page turns itself to fit as many as possible; a badge is never split across pages. Set your printer to “Actual size”, and turn on “Background graphics” if your colours do not print. Choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog to send the sheets to a print shop. You can also print a single badge or download it as a high-resolution PNG.
Can I upload my event logo?
Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG or SVG, then drag it where you want it and resize it on the badge. You can also upload finished artwork from Canva or Figma as the badge background and lay the names and QR codes over it. Both are kept in your browser along with the rest of the design.
Can Hi.Events scan the badges at the door?
This designer is a standalone tool: it prints whatever QR value you give it. If you sell tickets with Hi.Events, every attendee gets a QR code ticket, and your door staff scan them from any phone with live counts on every device.
