Before you switch
How do the fees compare?
Luma charges 5% in the US, 5% in the EU, 5% in the UK, 5% in Australia. Luma Plus, at $59 a month billed annually, removes the 5% fee and adds API access, Zapier and tax collection. Fees cannot be added on top of the ticket price, so the organizer always absorbs them. Hi.Events charges 1.25% plus a small fixed amount per paid ticket: 1.25% + $0.60 in the US, 1.25% + €0.50 in the EU, 1.25% + £0.45 in the UK, 1.25% + A$0.85 in Australia, with Stripe's card rate paid separately. Both platforms leave card processing to your own payment account, so the comparison is platform fee against platform fee. Luma makes the organizer absorb its fee; on Hi.Events you can pass ours to the buyer at checkout, so your own outlay can be zero.Luma fees explained →
Is Hi.Events cheaper than Luma?
For paid tickets above about $17, £13 or €14, yes: 5% overtakes 1.25% plus a small fixed amount at that point, and the gap grows with the price. Below it Luma's percentage is the smaller number. Either way, on Hi.Events you can pass the fee to the buyer and pay nothing yourself, which Luma does not allow. For free events both platforms are free.
What do I lose by leaving Luma?
Luma's community calendar, its discovery feed, and its guest messaging by SMS and WhatsApp. Hi.Events messages attendees by email, by ticket type, and has no SMS. If your events are mostly free meetups and the calendar is how people find them, Luma may still be the better fit.
Does Hi.Events do registration, not just tickets?
Yes. Free tickets, registration questions asked per ticket type, capacity limits, waitlists that offer places automatically when cancelled tickets free them up, and a check-in list your door staff open from a link.
When do I get paid?

Can I move my events over from Luma?
Yes, and the usual time to do it is between events. Recreating an event takes a few minutes, then you point your ticket links at the new page. Existing orders stay on Luma while new sales run through Hi.Events.
Do attendees need an account or an app?
No. They check out on your event page or in the widget on your own site, get their ticket by email with a link to the ticket page where the QR code is, and you scan it at the door from any phone.
Is Hi.Events really open source?
Yes, under the AGPL licence. Most organizers use the hosted version so they never touch a server, but the code is public and you can self-host it if you prefer.View on GitHub →
