Set up

Every event already has one

Open the Box Office tab and send the link and PIN to your door staff. Nobody needs an account. Add more box offices to split sales by entrance, date or ticket type.

  • Choose which tickets each box office sells, hidden ones included
  • Manual discounts and price overrides, each with its own switch
  • Open and close it on a schedule

Selling

Built for a queue

Tickets are big tiles you tap, and the sale builds up beside them. Add an email to send the tickets, or sell to a walk-up with no details at all.

  • Seated events show the map, with best available a tap away
  • Seats you have held back ask before they are sold
  • Recurring events: pick the date at sign-in, switch it any time

Payments

Cash, card or on the house

Cash

Type what they handed over or tap a round-up amount, and the change due is on screen.

Cash tender for €50.00: €60 handed over, €10.00 change due.

Card

The total goes to the reader. They tap, insert or swipe, and the sale completes on its own.

€90.00 sent to the Foyer reader: present card on reader.

Comp

Issue tickets free of charge, on box offices that allow discounts. The order is recorded as a comp, with a total of zero.

Paid elsewhere

Log a payment taken another way, like a bank transfer or another terminal, with an optional reference.

Stripe Terminal

Card payments on a Stripe reader

The box office works with Stripe's internet-connected smart readers, such as these. Generate a pairing code on the reader, type it into Hi.Events with a name like "Front door", and it shows up for your staff when they sign in.

Every sale, and who made it

Each person's name goes on the orders they sell. The sales summary splits the night by payment type, by person and by day, and door sales sit in Orders next to your online sales.

FAQ

The box office, answered

Can I use the box office today?
The box office is in early access. We are switching it on for a small group of organizers first, so email [email protected] with a few lines about your event, and we will turn it on for your account.Request early access →
What hardware do I need?
A tablet, phone or laptop with a web browser and an internet connection. To take cards you also need one of Stripe's internet-connected smart readers, such as the Stripe Reader S700 or S710 or the WisePOS E, bought from Stripe. Bluetooth readers and Tap to Pay on a phone don't work with the box office. A cash-only door needs nothing else.Card readers in the help center →
What does the box office cost?
Door sales are charged the same way as online sales: 1.25% + $0.60 per paid ticket, and nothing on free tickets. Card payments on a reader also carry Stripe's in-person processing fee, which Stripe charges to your own account.See pricing →
Do door staff need a Hi.Events account?
No. They open the box office link, type their name and the six-digit PIN, and start selling. Their name goes on every order they sell. Resetting the PIN signs everyone out, and too many wrong PINs locks the box office for up to 15 minutes.
How do I pair a card reader?
In your organizer settings, open Card readers and choose Add reader. Give it a label like "Front door" and type in the pairing code the reader shows. You need a connected Stripe account and an organizer address with a street, city and country, plus a state or province and postal code in the US and Canada.
Does it work offline?
No. The box office needs a connection to check what is still available and to hold seats, and it shows an Offline badge if the connection drops. Card readers need to be online too.
Can I refund a sale made at the door?
Cash, comp and paid-elsewhere sales can be voided from the box office for 30 minutes after the sale. Card sales, and anything older, are refunded by an organizer from Orders, the same way as online orders.
Does it print tickets or receipts?
It opens the tickets for printing on any printer the device can reach, and emails them if you add an address. There is no receipt printer or cash drawer support.
Can I sell reserved seats at the door?
Yes. On a seated event the box office shows the seat map next to the tickets. Tap seats, or set how many you need and choose best available. Seats you have held back ask for confirmation before they are sold.Reserved seating →
Is the box office in the self-hosted version?
On Hi.Events Cloud it is in early access, at no extra charge. If you self-host, it comes with any paid licence but is not part of the free version.Enterprise features →
