§ 01 · Organizers

Why organizers move to Hi.Events

We’ve used Hi.Events now for a few events and really love it. It’s also been fun to see improvements roll out as we go. We’re definitely never going back to Eventbrite.

§ 03 · The form

An event registration form that asks the right people

Each ticket type has its own price, sale dates and questions, so one event can register delegates, speakers and volunteers on the same page.

  • Questions per order

Asked once of the person booking, such as a company name or a billing address.

  • Questions per attendee

Asked for each ticket, on every ticket type or only the ones you pick, so speakers and delegates can be asked different things.

  • Question types

Short and long text, single choice, checkboxes, dropdowns, phone numbers, addresses and dates, each with an optional description. Templates for dietary needs, t-shirt sizes, an age check and more.

  • Follow-up questions

Ask a question only when an earlier answer calls for it, such as which dietary requirement once someone says they have one.

  • Eligibility checks

Mark answers that rule someone out, such as being under 18 or not a member, and registration stops with your message.

  • Group registration

Collect details per ticket and whoever books gives each attendee's name and email. Everyone gets their own ticket, and the booker gets one order.

  • Who can register, and when

A capacity per ticket type or shared across them, sale start and end dates, a minimum and maximum per order, and hidden tickets that only a promo code reveals.

  • When it fills up

A waitlist. When places free up they are offered in the order people joined, automatically if you turn that on.

  • Before you publish

A live preview of the form beside the questions. Try answers to see the follow-ups and eligibility messages people will get.

§ 06 · Worth knowing

What Hi.Events does not do

Better to know now than after you have opened registration.

  • No event app

There is no app for attendees. Tickets arrive by email, the agenda is on the event page, and check-in runs in a phone browser.

  • No call for papers

There is no call for papers or abstract review. Conferences that take submissions pair Hi.Events with a submissions tool.

  • No session sign-up

Attendees cannot book individual sessions from the agenda. A workshop with its own capacity is sold as its own ticket type or as an add-on.

  • No marketplace

Hi.Events does not list your event where people browse for things to do. Registrations come from the people you send to the page.

§ 08 · FAQ

Event registration, answered

What is event registration software?
Software that takes sign-ups for an event online: a form people fill in, payment if the event is paid, a confirmation with a ticket, and a list of everyone who is coming that you check in against on the day. Hi.Events does all of that in a web browser, for free and paid events, with nothing for you or your attendees to install.
Is Hi.Events free event registration software?
Yes, for free events. A free registration carries no fee, there is no limit on events or attendees, and there is no monthly fee or paid tier. You can publish a free event without connecting a payment account. To message attendees you need a connected Stripe account, which is how accounts are verified.Free event ticketing →
How much does it cost to take paid registrations?
Paid registrations cost 1.25% plus a fixed $0.60 in the US (€0.50 in the EU, £0.45 in the UK, A$0.85 in Australia) per paid ticket, with no monthly fee and no contract. By default the fee is added at checkout and paid by the attendee, so it costs you nothing, or you can absorb it into your price. Stripe charges its card processing on paid orders, and that part is the organizer's cost. Payments settle into your own Stripe account as people register.See pricing →
Can I build an online event registration form with my own questions?
Yes. Ask questions once per order or once per attendee, on every ticket type or only the ones you pick. Question types are short and long text, single choice, checkboxes, dropdowns, phone numbers, addresses and dates, and there are templates for common ones like dietary needs. Follow-up questions appear only when an earlier answer calls for them, and eligibility questions stop people registering if they give an answer you rule out, such as being under 18. A live preview shows the form as you build it. Answers show on each attendee and order, and in the exports.Registration questions →
Can one person register a group?
Yes. Set attendee details to be collected per ticket, and whoever books is asked for each person's name and email, along with any questions you ask per attendee. Everyone gets their own ticket by email and is on the check-in list by name, while the booker gets one order, with one invoice if invoicing is on. You can cap how many of each ticket type one order can include.Checkout settings →
Can attendees pay by invoice or bank transfer?
Yes. Turn on invoicing for the event and each new order gets a PDF invoice with your numbering prefix, organization name and address, tax details and payment terms. Turn on offline payments and attendees can choose bank transfer at checkout and follow the instructions you wrote. Their tickets are issued straight away and marked as unpaid, and the order shows as awaiting payment until you mark it as paid. Attendees can tell you once they've paid, with a note such as a PO number, and if someone else is paying, they can send that person a payment link.Invoices and receipts →Offline payments →
How do people check in on the day?
Each ticket has a QR code. Send your staff a check-in link and they open it on their own phones or tablets, with no account needed, then scan with the camera or a USB scanner, or search by name. Every device works from the same list. Check-in needs a connection, so make sure the door has Wi-Fi or mobile data.Setting up check-in →
Can I put the registration form on my own website?
Yes. Paste the widget code into WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or any site that takes HTML, and people register without leaving your page. Prices and availability always match what is in Hi.Events. You also get a branded event page to share.Website widgets →
Can attendees sign up for individual sessions?
No. The agenda shows what is on and where, but attendees do not book a place in each session from it. A workshop or session with its own capacity is sold as a separate ticket type or as an add-on, each with its own limit.
Is there an app for attendees?
No. Attendees register on your event page, get their ticket by email and show its QR code on a phone or on paper. There is no app to download and no account to create, and there is no attendee app for networking or messaging other attendees.
What is the best event registration software?
It depends on the event. We keep a shortlist of the registration platforms organizers compare, with each one's published fee, what a free registration costs on it, and what it is good at, including the things Hi.Events does not do.Best event registration software →
