Before you switch
How do the fees compare?
Zeffy charges 0%, nonprofits only in the US, 0%, nonprofits only in the EU, 0%, nonprofits only in the UK, 0%, nonprofits only in Australia (registered nonprofits only). Zeffy is funded by an optional contribution shown to each buyer at checkout. The buyer can set it to zero, but the organization cannot remove or change the suggested amounts. Businesses and individuals cannot use Zeffy. Hi.Events charges 1.25% plus a small fixed amount per paid ticket: 1.25% + $0.60 in the US, 1.25% + €0.50 in the EU, 1.25% + £0.45 in the UK, 1.25% + A$0.85 in Australia, with Stripe's card rate paid separately. Zeffy's fee covers card processing and ours does not, so the calculator on this page adds Stripe's standard rate to the Hi.Events side before it compares. Is Hi.Events free for nonprofits like Zeffy?
No. Hi.Events has one rate for every organizer, 1.25% plus a small fixed amount per paid ticket, and free tickets are free. A registered nonprofit that is comfortable with Zeffy's contribution prompt will pay less on Zeffy, and this page will not pretend otherwise.
Why would a nonprofit choose Hi.Events over Zeffy?
Because it controls what its supporters see at checkout. Zeffy suggests a contribution to itself on every purchase and the organization cannot remove or change the suggested amounts. On Hi.Events the buyer sees your price, your fee if you pass it on, and nothing else. Donation tickets and pay-what-you-want pricing are included.
I am not a nonprofit. Can I use Hi.Events?
Yes. Businesses, promoters, venues, clubs, schools and individuals all sell on Hi.Events at the same rate. You need a Stripe account for paid tickets; free events publish without one.
When do I get paid?
On Zeffy: weekly by default, after a fraud review of one to three business days. On Hi.Events you connect your own Stripe account and card payments settle into it as tickets sell, on your Stripe payout schedule. We never hold your money.Connecting Stripe →
Can I move my events over from Zeffy?
Yes, and the usual time to do it is between events. Recreating an event takes a few minutes, then you point your ticket links at the new page. Existing orders stay on Zeffy while new sales run through Hi.Events.
Do attendees need an account or an app?
No. They check out on your event page or in the widget on your own site, get their ticket by email with a link to the ticket page where the QR code is, and you scan it at the door from any phone.
Is Hi.Events really open source?
Yes, under the AGPL licence. Most organizers use the hosted version so they never touch a server, but the code is public and you can self-host it if you prefer.View on GitHub →
