Before you switch
How do the fees compare?
TryBooking charges 5% + $0.19* in the US, 5% + €0.18* in the EU, 5% + 15p in the UK, 2.5% + A$0.50 in Australia. In Australia the 50c ticket fee drops to 15c on tickets of A$5 or less. By default the buyer pays the per-ticket fee and the organizer pays the percentage, and either can be switched. Hi.Events charges 1.25% plus a small fixed amount per paid ticket: 1.25% + $0.60 in the US, 1.25% + €0.50 in the EU, 1.25% + £0.45 in the UK, 1.25% + A$0.85 in Australia, with Stripe's card rate paid separately. TryBooking's fee covers card processing and ours does not, so the calculator on this page adds Stripe's standard rate to the Hi.Events side before it compares. Is Hi.Events cheaper than TryBooking?
In Australia, no: TryBooking's 2.5% + A$0.50 includes card processing, and Hi.Events plus Stripe's rate comes to more on a typical ticket. In the UK, TryBooking's 5% + 15p is the higher figure above about £23. The calculator on this page adds Stripe's rate to our side so the comparison is honest.
Why switch if TryBooking is cheaper in Australia?
Because of when you are paid, where you can sell, and who owns the software. Hi.Events settles card payments into your own Stripe account as tickets sell, with no payout request and no hold for checks; it works in any country Stripe does, with one rate; and the code is open source, so you can export everything or run it yourself.
Does Hi.Events have seating plans like TryBooking?
No. Hi.Events sells general admission, tiered and timed tickets. If your school concert or theatre night needs allocated seats, TryBooking is the better tool for that event.
When do I get paid?
On TryBooking: on request from your TryBooking balance; requests before the event can be held for checks of up to seven days. Can I move my events over from TryBooking?
Yes, and the usual time to do it is between events. Recreating an event takes a few minutes, then you point your ticket links at the new page. Existing orders stay on TryBooking while new sales run through Hi.Events.
Do attendees need an account or an app?
No. They check out on your event page or in the widget on your own site, get their ticket by email with a link to the ticket page where the QR code is, and you scan it at the door from any phone.
Is Hi.Events really open source?
Yes, under the AGPL licence. Most organizers use the hosted version so they never touch a server, but the code is public and you can self-host it if you prefer.View on GitHub →
